nd 连在一起时 d 消失
Assimilation of /nd/
sandwich 几乎没人读成 sand-wich，母语者说的是 samwich：d 先被吞掉，n 再被后面的 w 带成 m。一个词里，省音和同化同时发生。
规则
First the /d/ disappears in between two consonants: that's elision. Now we have an /n/ followed by a /w/, and the /n/ changes to /m/ before /w/: that's assimilation. So 'sandwich' becomes 'samwich'.
分两步看。第一步省音（第 17 课）：d 夹在 n 和 w 两个辅音中间，被吞掉，sandwich 变成 sanwich。第二步同化（第 24 课）：n 后面跟着要圆唇的 w，n 变成 m，sanwich 变成 samwich。
grandparents、standby、handbag、band played 都是同样的两步：d 没了，n 变成 m。
