Could you…? / Would you…?能请你……吗？（客气地请人帮忙）

请人帮忙，从直接到客气：Can you… 有点生硬；Will you… 一定要加 please；Could you… 更礼貌；Would you… 更客气；Would you mind + 动词 -ing 最正式。对话里的 I wonder if you'd…（不知道你愿不愿意……）也是很委婉的请求。

ask someone a favor请某人帮个忙

favor 是帮别人的忙。请人帮忙常说 Can I ask you a favor? 或 Will you do me a favor?。后面 Ali 说的 I have a favor to ask of you，意思是“我也有件事想请你帮忙”。

I'll be glad to help. / Glad to help.很乐意帮忙

Let me know if I can help you（有需要请告诉我）和 I'll be glad to help you（很乐意为您服务）是前台、秘书、店员等服务人员的正式说法。朋友之间说短短的 Glad to help. 就行，对话里 Ali 就是这样回应 Jim 的道谢。

What can I do for you?要我帮什么忙？

Oh yeah?是吗？（升调，表示感兴趣）

Oh yeah 的意思看语调：升调 Oh yeah? 表示“是吗？说来听听”，对对方的话感兴趣；降调 Oh yeah. 表示“哦，对”，想起了自己本来就知道的事。

It's (just) that… / The thing is,…是这样的……（解释原因）

用在解释之前，意思是“是这样的……”“主要是因为……”，说话人希望对方能理解、接受这个理由。也可以说 The thing is,…。

date约会；约会对象

date 是和别人约好的社交见面，常常带点恋爱的意味，就是“约会”。have a date with someone 是“跟某人有约会”；对话里 find her a date 是“给她找个约会对象”。

totally完全；彻底

totally = completely，“完全、彻底、超级”，口语里很常用。totally lost 就是“完全听不懂、彻底跟不上”。

be willing to愿意（做某事）

be willing to + 动词原形，表示“愿意做某事”。I wonder if you'd be willing to… 是很委婉的请求：“不知道你愿不愿意……”。

back on track回到正轨；跟上进度

经历一段困难之后“回到正轨、恢复正常”。get someone back on track 就是“帮某人重新跟上”。

be on top of it 指完全弄懂了、能应付得来，相当于“都在掌控之中”。

a load off my shoulders / mind如释重负；心里一块石头落了地

肩上（心里）卸下了一个重担：责任或担心没有了，大大松了一口气。

miss缺席；错过；想念

miss 意思很多：没去成、缺席（missed classes 缺课）；没赶上（missed our plane 误了飞机）；想念（I miss you）；答错、没打中（missed six questions 错了六道题）。

  • He missed a week of work when he was sick.他生病时一个星期没上班。
  • We got stuck in traffic and missed our plane. Now we have to reschedule.我们堵在路上，误了飞机。现在得改签了。

go over / come over复习；过来

go over 可以是“走过去”（距离很近），也可以是“仔细看一遍、复习”，go over the lessons 就是把课一起过一遍；come over 是“（到我这儿）来”，Come on over! 是很随意的邀请：“快过来吧！”

ace（轻松）考高分；学得特别好

ace 作动词，指不怎么费力就拿到高分。I'm acing biology 就是“我生物学得特别好，次次拿高分”。

  • I didn't know he was so smart. He's acing trigonometry.我都不知道他这么聪明。他三角学门门拿高分。

fancy高档的；讲究的

fancy 形容东西精致、讲究、高档。it won't be anything fancy 就是“不会是什么高档地方，随便吃点”。

  • She wore a very fancy dress with lots of ruffles and bows.她穿了一条特别讲究的裙子，满是荷叶边和蝴蝶结。

非正式地问“有没有可能……”，常用来提请求，语气随意，不给对方压力。

How about if…?要不……怎么样？（提建议）

提出一个行动建议：“要不……怎么样？”主语可以是 I、we 或别人。

答应对方：先去弄清楚情况，一有消息就回复。比直接说 I don't know 负责任得多。

instead / instead of代替；而不是

instead 放在句末，表示“改成这个”；instead of 后面接被替换掉的那个，“而不是……”，后面接动词时用 -ing。

聊天中途换个话题时用，“对了……”“顺便说一句……”。
