Science & Technology

01

become widely available

The Internet had become widely available to households in the UK by 2000.
Now that smartphones have become widely available, even elderly people in rural areas can make video calls.
02

break new ground

This biologist and his team members have been breaking new ground in genetic research.
形容词 ground-breaking(开创性的)也很常用。
Chinese scientists have broken new ground in space exploration in recent years.
03

welcome sth. with open arms

TV viewers welcomed the arrival of HDTV with open arms.
被动也很常见:… was welcomed with open arms. 反过来写「并非人人都欢迎」,就是 not everyone welcomed it with open arms。
Not everyone welcomed online learning with open arms; many older teachers found it hard to adapt.
04

It is conceivable that...

It is conceivable that robots will steadily replace humans in repetitive jobs.
It is conceivable that driverless cars will make traffic accidents far less common in the future.
05

There is considerable evidence suggesting that...

There is considerable evidence suggesting that exposure to lead may increase the release of human stress hormone.
后面接 that 从句,从句里常配 may / can。
There is considerable evidence suggesting that too much screen time can affect children's sleep.
用 It is conceivable that … There is considerable evidence suggesting that … 口语里 break new ground、welcome sth. with open arms 适合描述一项你觉得改变了生活的发明。
