一次性的；用完就扔的书中例句
It seems efforts to restrain the use of disposable chopsticks face many obstacles.
想少用一次性筷子，看来阻力不小。
来自 dispose of（扔掉、处理掉）。常见搭配：disposable cups / plastic bags / nappies（英式说法的纸尿裤）。写环保话题讲「白色污染」「外卖垃圾」时用得上。
雅思里这样用
The rise of food delivery apps has led to a huge increase in disposable plastic containers.
外卖平台的兴起让一次性塑料餐盒大量增加。

vicious circle
恶性循环书中例句
She got caught in a vicious circle of dieting and weight gain.
她陷进了「节食、反弹、再节食」的怪圈。
英式英语多说 vicious circle，美式常说 vicious cycle。常见用法：be caught in / break a vicious circle。写环境、贫困、健康话题的因果链时特别好用。
雅思里这样用
Poverty and environmental damage can form a vicious circle: poor farmers cut down forests, and the land then becomes even less productive.
贫困和环境破坏可能形成恶性循环：贫困的农民砍伐森林，土地随后变得更加贫瘠。

cause irreversible damage
造成无法挽回的破坏书中例句
In some countries, air pollution is causing irreversible damage to the environment.
在一些国家，空气污染正在给环境带来无法逆转的伤害。
irreversible 就是「不能 reverse（倒回去）」，强调后果是永久的。写作里比 very serious damage 有力得多，也可以说 cause irreversible damage to the ecosystem / our health。

If we do not act now, climate change may cause irreversible damage to coral reefs and the species that depend on them.
如果现在不行动，气候变化可能会对珊瑚礁和依赖它的物种造成不可逆的破坏。

at the expense of sth. / sb.
以牺牲……为代价书中例句
They accused BP of pursuing profit at the expense of the environment.
他们指责英国石油公司为了赚钱不惜牺牲环境。
写「经济发展和环境保护」这类经典题目必备。结构是 A at the expense of B（为了 A 牺牲 B）。注意和政府那一课的 at the taxpayer's expense 区分：那个说「谁出钱」，这个说「牺牲了什么」。

让人心烦；惹人烦躁书中例句
The beeping noise from the computer really got on my nerves.
电脑那个嘀嘀声吵得我烦死了。
很口语的英式说法，用来说噪音、某人的习惯让你烦。口语讲噪音污染、室友、邻居时都能用，注意 my / his / her 跟着人变。正式写作里换成 be irritating。
雅思里这样用
The constant noise from the building site next to my flat gets on my nerves, especially when I am trying to study.
我家旁边工地的噪音一直不停，尤其是想学习的时候，真让人心烦。
Alex 提示：写环境类大作文，at the expense of 和 cause irreversible damage 可以撑起一整段：经济发展不能 at the expense of the environment，否则会 cause irreversible damage。vicious circle 用来解释因果链，disposable 用来举具体例子。get on my nerves 留给口语，讲噪音污染的亲身经历。
