犯罪与法律是雅思写作 Task 2 的常见话题：重罚能不能减少犯罪？监狱该惩罚还是改造？青少年为什么会犯罪？这一课挑 5 个书面又地道的表达：「守法公民」「被引诱走上犯罪道路」「让人不敢」「改造犯人」「严厉打击」，几乎可以直接搭成一篇作文的骨架。

law-abiding citizens
守法的公民书中例句
The judicial system is set up to benefit law-abiding citizens.
司法体系的设立，是为了保障守法公民的利益。
abide by 是「遵守」，law-abiding 就是「守法的」。写犯罪类作文时，和 criminals、offenders 对照着用，比 good people 正式得多。
雅思里这样用
Harsh punishments are meant to protect law-abiding citizens, not simply to take revenge on criminals.
严厉的惩罚是为了保护守法公民，而不只是为了报复罪犯。

be tempted into
被诱惑去做（不该做的事）书中例句
Those at the bottom of society may be more likely to be tempted into a life of crime as a solution to their problems.
处在社会底层的人，可能更容易被引诱走上犯罪道路，把它当成摆脱困境的办法。
be tempted into 后面接名词或 doing。写「犯罪的原因」时，搭配 a life of crime 很地道，常和 poverty、unemployment 一起出现。
雅思里这样用
Without education or job opportunities, young people can easily be tempted into joining gangs.
如果没有教育和工作机会，年轻人很容易被诱惑加入帮派。

deter sb. from doing sth.
让某人不敢做某事；震慑书中例句
The government is bringing in stricter laws to deter drivers from speeding.
政府正在出台更严格的法律，让司机不敢超速。
deter 是「吓住、使人不敢」，名词 deterrent（威慑手段）。讨论「重罚能否减少犯罪」时这是核心词。例句里的 bring in（出台法律）也是很英式的说法。
雅思里这样用
Some argue that longer prison sentences do not necessarily deter people from committing crimes.
有人认为，延长刑期并不一定能让人不敢犯罪。

rehabilitate prisoners
改造犯人，帮他们回归社会书中例句
The prison service should try to rehabilitate prisoners so that they can lead normal lives when they leave prison.
监狱部门应该努力改造犯人，让他们出狱后能过上正常的生活。
rehabilitate 是「帮助恢复正常生活」，名词 rehabilitation。「监狱应该惩罚还是改造」是雅思写作的经典题，punish 和 rehabilitate 正好是两边的关键词。
雅思里这样用
Rather than just punishing offenders, prisons should rehabilitate prisoners through education and job training.
监狱不应只是惩罚罪犯，还应该通过教育和职业培训来改造他们。

crack down on sth.
严厉打击（某种违法行为）书中例句
The police are cracking down on illegal parking.
警方正在严厉整治违规停车。
crack down on 指政府、警方加大力度打击某种违法行为，新闻里天天见。名词是 crackdown：a crackdown on drink-driving。写作里用它代替 strictly control，更地道。
雅思里这样用
The authorities should crack down on online fraud, which targets elderly people in particular.
有关部门应该严厉打击网络诈骗，这类诈骗尤其盯上老年人。
Alex 提示：写犯罪类作文可以这样分工：原因段用 be tempted into a life of crime；对策段用 crack down on 和 deter … from；讨论监狱的作用时用 rehabilitate prisoners；结论回到 protect law-abiding citizens。这些词偏书面，口语里不必硬塞。
