文化话题常见于写作（全球化、传统文化、移民）和口语 Part 2/3（节日习俗、家乡）。与其反复说 tradition 和 popular，不如换成英国人会说的：某件事「按习俗该这么做」、「……的时代已经过去了」、移民「融入当地文化」、老东西「又流行起来」、一个「邻里亲密的社区」。这一课挑 5 个，最后一句都是你在考试里能直接用的。

be customary
按习俗是这样做的；约定俗成的书中例句
In the UK a handshake is customary when a person is introduced to somebody new.
在英国，第一次被介绍给别人认识时，一般要握个手。
customary 来自 custom（习俗）。It is customary to … 是写文化、礼仪话题的万能句型，比 people usually … 正式。口语讲中国节日时同样好用。

In China, it is customary to give children red envelopes during the Spring Festival.
在中国，春节给孩子发红包是习俗。

Gone are the days when...
那种……的时代已经过去了（倒装句型）书中例句
Gone are the days when music was just a cultural expression.
音乐早就不只是一种文化表达了。
把 gone 提到句首的倒装句，语气更强，带一点感慨。写作开头描述社会变化时特别好用，when 后面接完整句子。口语里也可以说 The days when … are long gone.
雅思里这样用
Gone are the days when people had to queue at the bank to pay their bills; now almost everything can be done on a phone.
以前要去银行排队交费，现在几乎什么都能在手机上办，那样的日子早就过去了。

融入一种新的文化书中例句
Some immigrants can assimilate into the local culture immediately.
有的移民一到就能适应当地生活，很快融进去。
assimilate 读 /əˈsɪməleɪt/，本义是「吸收、同化」，名词 assimilation。聊留学、移民话题时比 fit in 正式。写作里常和 integrate（融合，同时保留自身特色）放在一起比较。
雅思里这样用
International students who join local clubs usually assimilate into the new culture much faster than those who only mix with people from home.
参加本地社团的国际学生，往往比只和老乡来往的人更快融入新文化。

（过时的东西）重新火起来书中例句
Acoustic music has had a resurgence in popularity due to the recent popularity of musicians playing without electric amplification on TV.
最近电视上流行乐手不插电直接演奏，原声音乐也因此又热了起来。
resurgence 是「复苏、再度兴起」。谈传统文化复兴时非常合适：traditional crafts / vinyl records have enjoyed a resurgence in popularity。口语里更随意的说法是 make a comeback。

Traditional Chinese clothing has had a resurgence in popularity among young people, partly thanks to social media.
中国传统服饰在年轻人中重新流行起来，社交媒体功不可没。

a close-knit community
关系紧密的社区；邻里之间都很熟书中例句
This close-knit community looks like a classic British village.
这个邻里亲密的小地方，看上去就是一座典型的英国村庄。
knit 是「编织」，close-knit 就像织得很密的毛衣，形容人和人之间联系紧密，也能说 a close-knit family / team。写城市化话题时，可以拿乡村的 close-knit communities 和大城市里人与人的疏离作对比。

I grew up in a close-knit community where everyone knew each other and neighbours often shared meals.
我在一个邻里关系很紧密的社区长大，大家都互相认识，邻居之间还经常一起吃饭。
Alex 提示：It is customary to … 和 Gone are the days when … 是两个能整句套用的句型，写作开头和口语 Part 3 都很顺手。谈传统文化复兴时，把 become popular again 换成 have a resurgence in popularity，立刻显得更地道。
