Reassurances

Don't worry、Never mind、There's no hurry、It won't hurt…… (It's only six o'clock),语气里多少带点「这有什么好急的」。

  • ↘do:声音从这个音节开始往下降(如 How d'you ↘do)

安慰的话里常用 only(不过是、才),比如 It's only six o'clock(才六点)。

Very often, reassurances use the word only. Listen and repeat Alan's part.

Sarah
↘Do hurry up, A↗lan. We'll be ↘late.
Alan
Well, it's only six o'↗clock.
Sarah
That means we've got to be there in an ↘hour!
Alan
Well, it's only a birthday ↗party.
Sarah
↘Yes, Alan, but it's your ↘cousin … I mean, it's ↘bad to turn up ↗late.
Alan
Yes, but he's only a distant ↗cousin.

Alan
Yes, but he's only a distant cousin of ↗mine.
Alan
Yes, but he's only a distant cousin of mine, Sa↗rah.

用 only 回应:

Mr Watkins
Just look at that horrible little ↘boy, Jo.
Yes, but he's only a ↗child.
Mr Watkins
But he's throwing ↘stones at a ↘wall. It's downright ↘dangerous!
But it's only a blank ↗wall.
Mr Watkins
That's all very ↘well, but it's the wall of a ↘house.
Yes, but it's only an empty ↗house.

David
↘Oh, ↘Heavens! The ↘Hodnipps are coming to↗night!
Harriet
They're not coming till eight o'↗clock.
David
In other words I've got to sit here for two ↗hours dreading the ↘doorbell.
Harriet
Well, they'll be gone by half past ↗ten.
David
I don't know how I shall ↘stand it!
Harriet
They're not that bad, Da↗vid.
